Adenoids are areas of tissue in the throat behind the nose. They help to build immunity. Sometimes they enlarge (inflamed due to infection by virus or bacteria) and make it difficult to breathe from the nose.
Common Symptoms–
- Difficulty in breathing from nose
- Noisy breathing
- Breathing from mouth, dry mouth
- Disturbed sleep at night
Sleep apnoea ( when a child sleeps, he stops breathing for a few seconds and then breathes again.
Diagnosis
Done from history, and sometimes Imaging
Treatment
Usually adenoids regress by age of four years as child develops immunity Surgical option is only when complications occur
